Retired Air Force Officer Launches Diagnostic Centre in Abuja

Flight Lieutenant Philip Dauda Midala, a retired Nigerian Air Force officer and laboratory scientist, has established the Phil-Med Diagnostic Centre in Kuje, Abuja, following a life-altering accident that left him wheelchair-bound. Midala's vision for a community-based diagnostic facility began in 2006 while he was still serving in the Nigerian Air Force.

The centre aims to provide essential laboratory investigations to residents who would otherwise need to travel to the Abuja city centre for such services. The facility's inauguration was attended by former military colleagues, medical professionals, family members, and community leaders, who celebrated Midala's achievement.

Air Vice Marshal A.A. Martins, representing Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, praised Midala's determination, stating, "You have shown that there’s ability in disability." Midala's journey faced challenges, including a dispute with a former landlord that delayed the establishment of a permanent facility, but he persevered to realize his long-held vision.
