FRSC Alerts Public to Fraudulent Traffic Offence SMS

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has alerted motorists and the public about fraudulent text messages that falsely notify recipients of new road traffic offences and direct them to a deceptive website. The warning was issued in a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, on a Wednesday.

The messages, circulated via mobile devices and social media, create a sense of urgency by claiming that a traffic offence has been recorded against the recipient. The FRSC emphasized that these messages are not affiliated with the agency and advised the public to verify any traffic offences through official channels rather than clicking on links in unsolicited messages.

The Corps warned that such links could be used to steal personal and financial information. The FRSC urged anyone receiving these messages to preserve evidence, avoid further communication with the sender, and report the incident.

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed called for public awareness about the scam and encouraged verification through official communication channels.
