Wike Claims Fubara is Biggest Loser in Rivers Crisis

Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, declared on Saturday that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is the biggest loser in the political crisis affecting the state. Wike criticized Fubara for losing the opportunity to seek a second term due to misguided advice from his supporters, which exacerbated the crisis.

During a media chat in Port Harcourt, Wike pointed out Fubara's failure to oversee the recent local government election, which led to the current council chairmen being elected, and noted that Fubara lacked control over the state House of Assembly, where none of the 29 members supported him. Wike emphasized that impeachment, while constitutionally permissible, should not be used frivolously and highlighted the importance of political negotiation for peace.

He expressed disappointment that Fubara could not rally support from the Assembly during the crisis and questioned the effectiveness of those surrounding the governor.
