Fubara Withdraws from APC Governorship Primary Race

Siminalayi Fubara, who was a candidate for the APC governorship primary, voluntarily withdrew from the race on May 20, 2023, despite having passed the party's screening process. Yilwatda, the APC chairman, confirmed that Fubara's withdrawal was motivated by a desire for peace and unity in Rivers State.

He firmly supported whoever would emerge as the party's candidate. Earlier speculations arose regarding Fubara's potential disqualification, particularly due to his perceived loyalty to former Governor Nyesom Wike, which some believed influenced his decision to step down.

However, Yilwatda rejected these claims, asserting that Wike, not being a member of the APC, could not dictate the party's internal affairs. Fubara's withdrawal came after he had appeared before the screening panel, which had sparked discussions about his candidacy.
