Fubara Withdraws from APC Governorship Primary Race

Siminalayi Fubara, the Governor of Rivers State, has voluntarily withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary for the 2027 elections. APC National Chairman Professor Nentaw Yilwatda clarified in a Monday interview that Fubara's withdrawal was a personal decision made after successfully completing the party's screening process.

Fubara had purchased the party's nomination form and passed the screening committee but opted to step down ahead of the primaries. Yilwatda emphasized that Nyesom Wike, a minister and member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), did not influence Fubara's decision, asserting that Wike is not a member of the APC.

Fubara's announcement of his withdrawal was framed as a commitment to peace and stability in Rivers State, reaffirming his dedication to serving his current term. Meanwhile, Wike dismissed suggestions that political crises influenced Fubara's exit, indicating ongoing negotiations involving President Bola Tinubu regarding the situation in Rivers State.
