Fubara to Return as Rivers Emergency Rule Extension Bid Fails

Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, is set to resume office on September 18, 2025, following the collapse of a move to extend the state's emergency rule. The decision came after a meeting involving President Bola Tinubu, Sole Administrator of Rivers State Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas (retd), and other stakeholders.

President Tinubu directed Ibas to prepare a comprehensive handover note detailing the state's finances and ongoing projects. The attempt by some lawmakers to extend Ibas's tenure faced opposition, with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike insisting on lifting the emergency rule by September 18.

The move to extend the emergency rule was met with resistance, emphasizing the need to restore normal governance in Rivers State.
