Tonye Cole Calls Fubara's Governorship Controversial

Tonye Cole, the former All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Rivers State, described Governor Siminalayi Fubara's emergence as controversial. During an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Cole urged political actors to leverage the current situation to establish a new governance direction in the state.

He commented on Fubara's reconciliation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, suggesting that Fubara likely consulted his close allies before making this decision to avoid political distractions. Cole emphasized that Fubara must focus on governance now that he has chosen to remain in office after the political crisis.

He noted that Fubara's path to office was disputed and that the ongoing feud with his predecessor had negatively impacted Rivers State. Cole expressed hope that the current political climate could lead to a new style of leadership and a more transparent electoral process.

The political tension between Fubara and Wike has persisted since Fubara assumed office in May 2023, leading to significant disruptions in governance.
