Marketers Urge Government Action on Rising Fuel Prices

Marketers in Nigeria's downstream petroleum sector, represented by the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Association of Nigeria (PetroAN), are calling on the federal government to urgently implement temporary intervention measures to cushion the impact of rising fuel prices. Over the past three weeks, petrol pump prices have steadily increased, driven by disruptions in the global oil market linked to the Middle East crisis, placing immense pressure on households and businesses.

Billi Gilli and Harri, spokespeople for PetroAN, highlighted that the ripple effects of the price surge are already evident across various sectors, noting spikes in transport costs and the rising prices of goods and services, which worsen the cost of living crisis. They stressed the need for immediate government action to ease the burden on citizens, warning that failure to act swiftly could further weaken the economy and deepen hardship.

PetroAN advocates for the introduction of transport relief initiatives and temporary food subsidy programs, alongside a strategic review of policies to strengthen the naira and stabilize fuel prices.
