Nigerian Oil Companies Exploit Citizens with Significant Petrol Price Hikes Amid Crude Oil Surge

Nigerian oil companies faced backlash for exploiting citizens as they raised petrol prices by 14.3% in response to a 6.2% increase in crude oil prices. The average pump price surged from N750 to N850 per liter, with some stations charging even higher.

Notably, Dangote Refinery adjusted its prices from N699 to N799 per liter. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) also implemented price hikes.

Chinedu Ukadik of IPMAN attributed the increases to the rise in global crude oil prices, while Dangote Refinery justified its adjustments due to cost increments. The market's response varied, with some outlets like AYM Sharfa raising prices to N900 per liter.

The situation sparked public outcry and accusations of exploitation by oil companies.
