Yuguda Warns Nigerians Against Atiku's Fuel Subsidy Proposal

On Tuesday, Mallam Isa Yuguda, the former Governor of Bauchi and Chairman of the 2009 Fuel Subsidy Task Force, warned Nigerians against the proposal by Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, to reinstate the fuel subsidy regime. Speaking at a policy roundtable organized by the APC Professional Forum, Yuguda highlighted that the previous subsidy system was a significant burden on public finances, characterized by inefficiencies, fraudulent practices, and financial leakages.

He stated that the removal of the subsidy was a necessary reform aimed at redirecting resources towards critical sectors such as education, security, agriculture, and healthcare. Yuguda praised President Tinubu for demonstrating the political courage to implement this reform, which previous administrations had recognized as necessary but failed to execute.

He urged Nigerians to critically evaluate political promises regarding the fuel subsidy, warning that a return to the old system could mislead citizens and jeopardize national investments.
