Yuguda Critiques Atiku's Fuel Subsidy Proposal Ahead of 2027

Isa Yuguda, the former Governor of Bauchi State, revealed insights from his tenure as chairman of the Federal Government’s Fuel Subsidy Task Force in 2009, where he identified significant irregularities and financial leakages in the subsidy system. Speaking at a policy roundtable organized by the APC Professionals Forum, Yuguda cautioned Nigerians against the allure of campaign promises ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He specifically criticized the proposal by Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, to reinstate the fuel subsidy regime, which had been removed by the current administration. Yuguda emphasized that restoring the subsidy without addressing its historical inefficiencies could exacerbate Nigeria's financial burdens.

He commended President Bola Tinubu for his political courage in implementing the subsidy removal, a reform previous administrations had acknowledged as necessary but failed to execute. Yuguda urged voters to scrutinize political promises regarding fuel subsidies, reflecting on the past experiences that led to financial drains on the economy.
