Yilwatda Critiques Atiku's Subsidy Reversal Proposal

Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), condemned former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar's proposal to reverse the removal of the petrol subsidy if elected president in 2027. In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy, Mr. Abimbola Tooki, Yilwatda described Atiku's proposal as a deeply troubling policy u-turn that raises questions about the opposition's readiness to govern.

He stated that Nigerians deserve more than election-season promises and that any proposal to restore the costly subsidy regime must undergo rigorous scrutiny due to the fiscal burden it places on public finances. Yilwatda emphasized that the removal of the subsidy was a necessary decision requiring complementary measures to mitigate its impact.

He expressed concern that Atiku's late proposal, just months before the 2027 elections, could reverse essential economic adjustments and urged Nigerians to critically evaluate competing economic programs.
