Okolugbo Critiques Atiku's Fuel Subsidy Promise for 2027

Kenny Okolugbo, the former Delta State Commissioner for Oil and Gas Producing Areas, has publicly criticized Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), for his recent promise to restore fuel subsidy. Okolugbo asserted that this promise is politically motivated, aimed at securing votes for the upcoming 2027 presidential election.

He pointed out that Atiku's previous commitment in 2022 was to eliminate the subsidy, questioning the inconsistency in his current stance. In a post on his 𝕏 handle, Okolugbo stated, “Atiku, you cannot bring back fuel subsidy, you are only doing this because you want to win the 2027 election by all means.” He expressed skepticism about Atiku's chances in the election, claiming there is "no pathway" for his victory.

Okolugbo also warned against returning to the economic conditions of the past, where the country faced significant financial challenges, including an inability to pay salaries.
