Okolugbo Critiques Atiku's Fuel Subsidy Promise for 2027

Sir Kenny Okolugbo, the former Delta State Commissioner for Oil and Gas Producing Areas, criticized Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), for his promise to restore fuel subsidy if elected president in 2027. In a video posted on his official X handle, Okolugbo claimed that Atiku's proposal was politically motivated, aimed at securing votes ahead of the upcoming presidential election.

He recalled that Atiku had previously pledged in 2022 to eliminate the subsidy, questioning the inconsistency in his position. Okolugbo stated, “Atiku, you cannot bring back fuel subsidy, you are only doing this because you want to win the 2027 election by all means.” He expressed skepticism about Atiku's chances of winning, asserting that there is "no pathway" for him to succeed.

Okolugbo further criticized the economic implications of reinstating the subsidy, referencing past financial mismanagement and the inability of states to pay salaries.
