Nigeria Tax Reform Chair Proposes Fuel Surcharge to Fix Roads, Address Inflation

Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy Tax Reforms, Taiwo Oyedele, stated that the proposed fuel surcharge in Nigeria aims to generate dedicated revenue to fix the country's decaying road network. Oyedele highlighted that the poor road infrastructure is a major driver of high inflation, especially in food prices.

He emphasized the importance of road infrastructure for transportation in Nigeria and how it directly impacts inflation rates. Oyedele also acknowledged the concerns about the potential impact of tax reforms on inflation and vulnerable citizens.

The removal of fuel subsidy and the multiple taxes collected on goods transportation were also discussed as contributing factors to the economic challenges faced in Nigeria.
