Record Transfers: Diomande and Bouaddi Lead African Football

The transfer market for African football has reached new heights, with Yan Diomande's transfer from RB Leipzig to Real Madrid setting a record at €125 million, making him the most expensive African footballer in history. This deal, announced on September 3, 2023, includes potential performance-related bonuses of €10 million to €15 million.

Diomande, a 19-year-old Ivorian winger, had a breakout season in Germany and signed a contract with Real Madrid that runs until 2033. Following him is Ayyoub Bouaddi, who transferred from Lille to Manchester City for €95 million, with an additional €5 million in potential add-ons.

Bouaddi, an 18-year-old Moroccan international, played a significant role in Morocco's 2026 World Cup campaign. Previously, Nicolas Pépé held the record with his €80 million transfer from Lille to Arsenal in 2019, while Victor Osimhen's move to Napoli in 2020 also features prominently in the list of expensive transfers.
