123 Women Candidates for Nigeria's 2027 Senate Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission has released the final list of candidates for Nigeria's 2027 general election, revealing that 1,303 candidates will contest for the 109 senatorial seats, with 123 of them being women. Prominent female candidates include Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the current senator for Kogi Central, who is seeking re-election on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform, and Ireti Kingibe, the FCT senator contesting on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform.

Other notable candidates include Iyabo Obasanjo, contesting in Ogun State on the PDP platform, and Idiat Oluranti Adebule, the APC candidate for Lagos West. Former senator Nkechi Nwaogu is also in the race for Abia Central under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The participation of these women reflects the political parties' preparations for campaigns leading up to the elections, which will shape the composition of the Senate in the 10th National Assembly.
