INEC Releases Candidates for 2027 National Assembly Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of nominated candidates for the 2027 National Assembly elections, complying with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, which requires publication at least 60 days prior to the election. A total of 1,303 candidates will contest for 109 Senate seats, while 3,560 candidates are vying for 360 seats in the House of Representatives.

The window for withdrawal and replacement of candidates closed on August 22, 2026. Campaigns commenced on August 19, 2026, following party primaries held from April 23 to May 30, 2026.

The elections are set for January 16, 2027. A breakdown of candidates by state includes: Abia State with 40 Senate candidates and 92 House candidates; Adamawa State with 38 Senate candidates and 95 House candidates; Akwa Ibom with 37 Senate candidates and 103 House candidates; Anambra with 42 Senate candidates and 108 House candidates; Bauchi with 31 Senate candidates and 123 House candidates; Bayelsa with 45 Senate candidates and 61 House candidates; Benue with 39 Senate candidates and 118 House candidates; Borno with 33 Senate candidates and 72 House candidates; and Cross River with 25 Senate candidates.
