Infantino Faces Opposition Ahead of 2027 FIFA Election

Gianni Infantino, the FIFA president, is encountering increasing opposition ahead of the March 2027 election for his final term. Controversy arose from his proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise investment plan, which aimed to invite private investments in the World Cup, leading to criticism from football authorities.

Following the backlash, FIFA shelved the proposal, and Infantino apologized for the errors associated with it. Despite this, he secured support from FIFA's senior executives during a crisis meeting in Rabat, Morocco.

The ultimate decision will be made by FIFA's 211 member associations, each holding one vote. Notably, several European associations, including Finland, England, Wales, and others, have withdrawn their support, while the Confederation of African Football continues to back Infantino.

As of now, no formal challengers have emerged, with the nomination deadline set for November 18. Jordan, led by Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, is the only non-European country to publicly oppose Infantino.
