Arab Federations Support Infantino Amid FIFA Crisis

On Thursday, six Arab football federations—Morocco, Qatar, Egypt, Mauritania, Lebanon, and Sudan—publicly backed FIFA President Gianni Infantino as he faces increasing scrutiny ahead of the 2024 presidential election. They issued a statement reaffirming their "full support" and confidence in his leadership following the failure of a contentious private investment plan for the World Cup, which was reportedly valued at up to $20 billion.

The plan faced backlash from UEFA, CONCACAF, and the Asian Football Confederation, which claimed it constituted a "fundamental breach of trust." Additionally, Ireland, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland have withdrawn their support for Infantino, who has been in office since 2016. Despite the challenges, Infantino can draw strength from the endorsement of the six Arab federations, who remain committed to his vision for global football development.

Patrice Motsepe, president of the African football confederation, has also questioned calls for Infantino's removal, urging dissenters to challenge him in the upcoming elections. The deadline for election declarations is set for November 18.
