Federal Government and NLC Reach Eight Labor Agreements

The federal government and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have reached eight agreements focused on various labor-related issues, including transport support, outstanding allowances, minimum wage renegotiations, and tax relief. The agreements stipulate that the government will provide a monthly transport intervention of N70,000 for six months, beginning in November 2026.
Outstanding peculiar allowance arrears will be paid in three equal monthly installments starting in November 2026. Additionally, the government will settle 19 months of outstanding allowances owed to health workers within three months, starting in December 2026.
A negotiating committee will be formed to commence work immediately. However, the effective date for implementing the minimum wage remains unresolved.
The verification process for hazard allowances owed to agricultural officers is expected to be completed within two weeks, and the cost implications of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) will be updated within three weeks. The issue of tax relief has been referred to the NLC National Executive Council for further consideration.
Both parties will reconvene in one month to review the implementation progress.
