INEC Announces Revised Dates for 2027 General Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a revised timetable for the 2027 general elections in Nigeria. The presidential and national assembly elections are now scheduled for Saturday, February 20, 2027, while the governorship and state house of assembly elections will take place on Saturday, March 6, 2027.

This adjustment follows the repeal of the Electoral Act 2022 and the enactment of the Electoral Act 2026, which necessitated a realignment of the electoral schedule to ensure compliance with the new legal framework. Additionally, the Osun State governorship election, originally set for Saturday, August 8, 2026, has been rescheduled to Saturday, August 15, 2026.

INEC has emphasized the importance of adherence to the revised timelines and has called on political parties to comply with the electoral laws. The commission aims to ensure a credible and inclusive electoral process that reflects the will of the Nigerian people, as stated by Malam Moham Kudu Haruna, the chairman of the commission.
