INEC Sets 2027 Election Date Amid Ramadan Concerns

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that Nigeria's next general elections will take place on February 20, 2027. This date overlaps with the Islamic holy month of Ramadan and the Christian season of Lent, which has led to significant reactions from religious groups and political figures.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called for an urgent rescheduling of the election date, emphasizing that holding elections during such a spiritually significant time could negatively impact voter turnout and participation.
