Funke Akindele Turns 49, Celebrates Nollywood Success

Funke Akindele, born Olufunke Ayotunde Akindele, celebrated her 49th birthday on August 24, 2026, with a heartfelt message on Instagram. She was born in Ikorodu in 1977 to a medical doctor and a retired school principal.

Akindele earned an OND in Mass Communication from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic and a Law degree but chose acting as her career. Her breakthrough role was in the sitcom "I Need to Know," and she gained fame from the 2008 film "Jenifa," which won her the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress.

As a filmmaker, her 2025 film became the first Nollywood production to gross over ₦2 billion, reaching ₦2.103 billion in its first month and over ₦2.5 billion by February 2026. Her films have collectively grossed over ₦6 billion in five years.

Akindele's net worth is estimated between $7 million and $11 million, though no verified figure exists.
