Gabriele Gravina Resigns as FIGC President After Setback

Gabriele Gravina has stepped down as president of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) after Italy's failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup for the third consecutive time. His resignation was announced during an emergency FIGC general council meeting held on March 31.

A vote to elect his successor is scheduled for June 22. Gravina, who led the federation since October 2018, oversaw Italy's victory at UEFA Euro 2020 but faced increasing pressure following the team's inability to qualify for the 2022 and 2026 World Cups.

The recent failure intensified calls for change from senior figures in Italian football, including the sports minister Andrea Abodi. During his tenure, Gravina appointed Luciano Spalletti and Gennaro Gattuso as national team coaches for the 2023-2025 period.

Speculation has arisen regarding potential changes in the coaching staff due to the World Cup failure.
