Gambian Officials Visit Nigeria for Public Service Reform Insights

On Wednesday, in Abuja, Prof. Tunji Olaopa, Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), received a delegation of senior officials from The Gambia, led by Mr. Momodou K. Donna, Deputy Chief of Staff at the Office of the President of The Gambia.

The visit aimed to deepen the Gambian delegation's understanding of Nigeria's public service reform experience. Prof. Olaopa discussed Nigeria's reform strategy, which includes economic, civil service, financial, and governance reforms, emphasizing the need for clear institutional mandates and effective coordination among actors.

He stated that having a Minister responsible for public service alongside a Head of the Civil Service is acceptable if roles are clearly defined. Mr. Sheriff Jallow from The Gambia outlined the country's personnel management evolution and noted that The Gambia is considering reforms to its public service structures, making Nigeria's experience particularly relevant for their ongoing reform process.
