Gambia's Education Minister Visits Nigeria's TETFund

Pierre Gomez, the Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology of Gambia, led a delegation to Nigeria’s Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in Abuja. The purpose of the visit was to inform TETFund's Executive Secretary, Arc.

Sonny S.T Echono, about Gambia's plans to establish the Tertiary and Higher Education Trust (THET) Fund, modeled after TETFund. Prof.

Gomez expressed the Gambian government's interest in seeking assistance and cooperation from TETFund during an upcoming study tour by THET Fund officials. He noted that Gambia has closely monitored TETFund's activities and achievements, recognizing the need for a similar agency to support higher education.

Arc. Echono welcomed the delegation and provided a history of TETFund, explaining its evolution from the Education Trust Fund (ETF) and its funding sources, including a 3% Education Tax on company profits, until the introduction of a new Development Levy by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration in 2026.
