Power Minister Adelabu Delivers on Electricity Supply Promise

Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu has met a two-week promise to enhance electricity supply in Nigeria, as claimed by his aide Bolaji Tunji. Between March 28 and April 10, 2026, power generation rose from 3,951 MW to 4,300 MW, reflecting a consistent upward trend.

This improvement is linked to a steady increase in gas supply to thermal power plants, which rose from approximately 605 million standard cubic feet (MMSCFD) to 704 MMSCFD during this period. The operational availability of power plants also improved, peaking at 4,694 MW.

Tunji emphasized the strong correlation between gas availability and generation output, highlighting the importance of sustained interventions in the gas power value chain. The Minister recently inaugurated a gas power monitoring committee to ensure real-time coordination and address delivery bottlenecks.

Adelabu remains committed to ensuring that the modest gains in power supply are sustained and improved upon in the coming weeks, while also urging NEMSA to focus on improving its internal revenue generation.
