Nigerians to Experience Improved Electricity in Two Weeks

Adebayo Olowoniyi, the Chief Technical Adviser to the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, stated that Nigerians should see a gradual improvement in electricity supply within two weeks. This improvement is linked to maintenance work on a major gas pipeline, which is nearing completion.

Olowoniyi explained that the current electricity crisis is largely driven by disruptions in gas supply, as 75% of Nigeria's electricity generation relies on gas. He expressed confidence that the recovery process has already begun, with gas pressure expected to return to levels seen in the last two to three months.

Minister Adelabu publicly apologized for the persistent power outages that have deepened hardships across homes, businesses, and schools. He emphasized that the outages were caused by factors beyond the government's immediate control and reiterated the federal government's target to ramp up electricity generation to 6,000 megawatts by the end of 2026.
