Gattuso Resigns as Italy Coach After World Cup Failure

Gennaro Gattuso resigned as the coach of the Italian national football team on Friday after the team failed to qualify for the World Cup for the second consecutive time. Gattuso, who took charge in June 2022 following the dismissal of Luciano Spalletti, faced heavy criticism after Italy's poor performance, including a recent defeat by Bosnia and Herzegovina in the World Cup qualifying playoffs.

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) president, Gabriel Gravina, had requested Gattuso to stay until the elimination in Zenica, but the coach decided to step down. Under Gattuso's leadership, Italy recorded six wins, one draw, and one loss in eight matches, scoring 22 goals and conceding 10.

However, the team's inability to secure a spot in the World Cup, highlighted by a humiliating 4-1 loss to Norway, ultimately led to Gattuso's resignation.
