Centre LSD and Traditional Rulers Abolish Harmful Practices

The Centre for Leadership and Development (Centre LSD), led by Executive Director Dr. Otiv Igbuzor, has made significant strides in abolishing harmful traditional practices in Bechev, Obanliku Local Government Area, Cross River State.

During a press conference on Tuesday, it was announced that six million two hundred thousand naira was raised to support the first set of 57 women who were oppressed by these practices. The initiative, which is part of a broader effort to combat gender-based violence, involved collaboration with traditional rulers and community leaders.

A landmark meeting held on March 12, 2026, resulted in a unanimous agreement to abolish practices that deny women their rights, including the return of bride prices to empower women. The paramount ruler, HRH Amo Uyumulam, reaffirmed the commitment to end these harmful traditions, emphasizing the importance of community ownership and dialogue in achieving justice and human dignity.
