Rivers Police and GS Foundation Launch Gender Lab

The Rivers State Police Command, in collaboration with GS Foundation, launched a Gender Lab in Port Harcourt, designed to enhance the technological capabilities of the police in addressing gender-based violence. The facility will focus on a victim-centered approach to justice delivery, equipped with advanced forensic technology and a digital evidence management system.

Mr. Peter Heepen of GS Foundation described the initiative as a landmark intervention aimed at improving institutional responses to domestic violence and gender-related crimes.

CP Olugbenga Adepoju commended the partnership with GS Foundation, calling it a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to improve investigative standards and protect vulnerable individuals. The Gender Lab is expected to function as a specialized center for advanced forensic evidence collection and psychosocial support services for victims, while also training personnel in gender-sensitive investigations.

This initiative is seen as a critical step towards restoring confidence in the justice system and ensuring that perpetrators of gender-based violence are brought to justice swiftly and professionally.
