Arthur Gea Claims First ATP Tour Title in Upset Win

Arthur Gea, a 21-year-old tennis player, captured his first ATP Tour title at the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo, defeating defending champion Denis Shapovalov with a score of 6-3, 6-4. Gea entered the tournament with only three tour-level victories and was ranked No. 127 in the PIF ATP Rankings.

Following his triumph, he is set to rise to either No. 81 or No. 82 in the rankings, depending on the outcome of an ATP Challenger event. During the trophy presentation, Gea expressed his surprise and happiness at winning, stating, “I didn’t know how I would win this week.” His victory marks him as the 11th first-time ATP Tour champion of the season.

Despite the loss, Shapovalov is expected to gain confidence from his performance and will focus on the upcoming National Bank Open presented by Rogers in Montreal, where he previously reached the semifinals in 2017.
