Germany Sets New Rules for Visa-Free Travelers

The German Federal Foreign Office has published official guidance detailing restrictions for nationals from visa-free countries entering Germany. The guidance specifies that these visitors cannot stay longer than 90 days within any 180-day period, with the timeframe calculated on a rolling basis, meaning exiting and re-entering does not reset the count.

Additionally, visa-free visitors are prohibited from engaging in any form of gainful employment during their stay, regardless of the duration of their visit or remaining time. Those wishing to stay longer or work legally in Germany must obtain the appropriate visa or permit prior to or after arrival, depending on their nationality and circumstances.

The guidance also notes that Germany has bilateral agreements with certain countries that may allow for longer stays under specific conditions, and travelers are encouraged to consult the relevant German embassy or consulate for detailed information.
