Germany Takes Action Against Russia Over Drone Incident

The German government has declared a series of measures against Russia in response to a drone incident at Leipzig Airport, which it termed a hybrid attack. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, alongside Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, stated that this incident reflects a broader pattern of Russian aggression aimed at destabilizing Europe.

Wadephul emphasized that Russia's actions have severely strained bilateral relations, and he accused Russia of showing no willingness to compromise. In response, Germany will close the Russian Consulate General in Bonn effective September 18, terminate the lease for the Russian House in Berlin, and propose new European Union sanctions against individuals linked to hybrid attacks.

Additionally, Germany will tighten immigration controls for Russian nationals and enhance measures in the intelligence sector. The government plans to summon the Russian ambassador to inform him of these actions and reiterated its commitment to NATO and EU partnerships in strengthening collective security and supporting Ukraine against Russian aggression.
