Germany Retaliates Against Russia Over Leipzig Attack

Germany has implemented a series of retaliatory measures against Russia following an alleged hybrid attack in Leipzig. German Foreign Minister Wadephul and Interior Minister Dobrindt announced these measures, which include the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Bonn effective September 18 and the termination of the lease for the Russian House in Berlin.

Wadephul accused Russia of a sustained campaign to destabilize European countries and stated that the Leipzig incident represented a deliberate attempt by Russian leadership to damage bilateral relations. Germany plans to propose new EU listings targeting Russian individuals linked to hybrid attacks and will tighten immigration controls for Russian nationals.

Additionally, Germany will increase pressure on Russia's shadow fleet and enhance its intelligence operations. The German government remains committed to supporting Ukraine and will maintain unity with NATO and EU partners to prevent further hybrid operations in Europe.
