A tragic incident occurred as a girl, Praise, drowned in a flood while rushing home to check her SSCE results in Zaria. The final year student of Government Day Secondary School, Samaru Zaria, had performed excellently in her exams, prompting her excitement to check her results.

Praise and a friend were at a shop when they received the news of her success, leading her to hurry home. Unfortunately, while crossing a small river affected by severe erosion, she slipped and was swept away by the floodwaters.

Her body was recovered the next day. The environmental crisis in the area, worsened by erosion, has made it prone to flooding.

Praise's neighbor, Danladi Mudi Emma Yashi, highlighted the urgent need for authorities to address the erosion issue to prevent further tragedies. The community is mourning the loss of a bright student who had secured a scholarship due to her academic excellence.
