Olivier Giroud Signals Possible Retirement After Season

Olivier Giroud, who is currently a forward for Lille and turns 40 on Wednesday, has indicated that he will “very probably” retire at the end of the current season. In an interview with l’Equipe newspaper, Giroud expressed his intention to make the most of his remaining time as a player.

He became France's record goalscorer during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar but was surpassed by Kylian Mbappe earlier this year. Giroud has had a notable career, winning the World Cup with France in 2018 and scoring 57 goals in 137 appearances for the national team.

His club career includes winning league titles in France with Montpellier and in Italy with AC Milan. His most significant achievement came with Chelsea when they won the Champions League in 2021, along with four FA Cup victories, three of which were with Arsenal.

He last represented France in 2024.
