Golf to be Included in Akwa Ibom Sports Festival 2026

Preparations have advanced to include golf in the Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival of 2026, driven by popular demand. This decision follows a visit by Elder Paul Bassey, the Honourable Commissioner for Sports and Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee, to the Ibom Golf Course in Nwaniba, Uyo, on August 12, 2026.

During his visit, he met with Mr Isuamfon Archibong, the Captain of the Ibom Golf Course, to gain insights into the game's implications for the festival. Bassey noted the previous year's demand for golf's inclusion and emphasized its value to the festival, citing Uyo's world-class golf course.

Archibong praised the course's standards and the support from state leadership, highlighting its membership of about one thousand across the state. He assured Bassey of the course's cooperation to ensure a successful inclusion of golf in the festival.

Bassey's team included key officials from the Ministry of Sports.
