Akwa Ibom Sports Commissioner Bassey Sets Registration Rules

Elder Paul Bassey, the Commissioner for Sports in Akwa Ibom State, has warned members of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), including Local Government Chairmen and Sports Supervisors, to comply with registration processes for the Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival, which begins on September 22, 2026. During meetings with the LOC, Bassey emphasized that athlete registration must be conducted through the official festival portal, with all information matching required supporting documents.

Key documents include a Certificate of Origin, National Identification Number (NIN), and passport photograph. Discrepancies in these documents could lead to rejection and disqualification of athletes.

Bassey also stated that the festival is sponsored by Governor Pastor Umo Eno for the benefit of Akwa Ibom youths and warned against any manipulation of the registration process. Additionally, he mentioned that accommodation would be provided for participating athletes, while local governments could arrange private accommodations as needed.

Hon. Michael Ukpong, Dean of the College of Sports Supervisors, praised Governor Umo Eno for continuing the festival after last year's success.
