ASUU Issues 14-Day Strike Ultimatum to Gombe Government

The Gombe State University (GSU) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Gombe state government to meet its demands or face a total and indefinite strike. This decision was announced in a statement signed by the branch chairman, Dr Mustapha S.

Shehu, and secretary, Dr Aliyu Usman Shelleng, following a visitation by the National Executive Council (NEC) to the branch. The NEC directed the branch to initiate a comprehensive and indefinite strike if grievances remain unresolved after the ultimatum.

The strike is set to commence on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. ASUU members are demanding the payment of the 2021–2024 backlog of Earned Academic Allowance (EAA), arrears of the 25 per cent and 35 per cent wage awards, implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage, and payment of N30,000 minimum wage arrears.

Additional demands include full implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement and enhanced allowances for various academic activities. The union had previously appealed to the state government to settle outstanding entitlements to avoid industrial action.
