Gombe State University Investigates Abandoned Newborn Baby

On Friday, Gombe State University management confirmed the discovery of a day-old baby boy in a female hostel. The incident has prompted the university to launch an investigation alongside security agencies to identify those responsible for abandoning the newborn.

Naphtali Hadu, the university's public relations officer, stated that the school is working diligently to gather details and ensure appropriate punishment for the perpetrators. The baby has been taken to a federal teaching hospital in Gombe for medical care.

In response to the incident, the university management has placed restrictions on the female hostel while the investigation continues. This case follows a similar incident in 2023, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding the abandonment of newborns in the area.
