Gombe Varsity Workers Threaten Strike Over Unpaid Wages

Workers at Gombe University, represented by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and led by Chairman Dr. Mustapha S.

Shehu, have threatened to go on strike over the non-payment of their entitlements. The union is demanding the payment of a backlog of earnings from 2021 to 2024, including wage awards of N70,000 and N30,000 minimum wage arrears.

They are calling for full implementation of the 2025 federal government-ASUU agreement. The leadership of the union has lamented the lack of progress in resolving these outstanding entitlements with the state government.

A congress resolution has been made, stating that if the government fails to address these issues immediately, they will consider a strike. Dr.

Shehu also emphasized the need for enhanced postgraduate supervision and practical industrial training for students, appealing to stakeholders, parents, and guardians to intervene and advise the government to settle the outstanding entitlements for the university staff.
