SSANU Issues Ultimatum Over Salary Delays, Threatens Strike

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has expressed serious concerns over the slow pace of negotiations with the federal government regarding salary and allowance delays. Following their 54th National Executive Council meeting held at Ekiti State University from March 26-27, 2026, SSANU's communiqué, signed by National President Muhammad Ibrahim, warned that failure to conclude the renegotiation process by April 30, 2026, would trigger industrial action.

The union condemned the persistent salary delays, which have caused severe hardship for members and their families, undermining morale and productivity across the university system. SSANU demands immediate payment of outstanding salaries and a reliable unified salary payment structure.

The union criticized the government's handling of a previously agreed N50 billion disbursement from 2022 and highlighted the impact of inflation on workers' living costs. Additionally, SSANU called for urgent investment in digital infrastructure to enhance research support and warned against public-private partnerships that threaten job security.
