Google Launches Global Access to SynthID Detector Tool

Google has expanded access to its SynthID Detector, allowing users worldwide to check images, videos, and audio files for signs of artificial intelligence-generated content. This tool is now available globally in English, enabling verification of media created using AI tools from Google and its partners, including OpenAI, NVIDIA, and Kakao, with Apple expected to join soon.
Pushmeet Kohli, Vice-President of Science and Strategic Initiatives at Google DeepMind, announced this development in a statement on October 7, 2026. The SynthID technology, introduced in 2023, has watermarked over 180 billion images and videos and 240,000 years of audio content.
The expansion follows the introduction of an early version of the SynthID Detector last year, which was aimed at media professionals. The tool allows users to submit media for verification and complements existing verification features in Google’s Search service, Gemini application, and Chrome browser, which handle over one million requests daily.
