Governor Diri Visits New Atissa King, Promises Support

On Thursday, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State visited the newly installed monarch of Atissa Kingdom, King Diemez Victor Awala, who ascended the throne on May 2, 2026. During this visit, Governor Diri assured the king that his administration would prioritize the resumption of the Obogoro erosion project, which had been halted due to incomplete studies.

He emphasized the need for peace and harmony in the kingdom, especially during the mourning period for the late monarch. Diri urged the Atissa people to document their development needs and assured them of government support within available resources.

The governor was accompanied by dignitaries, including Deputy Governor Dr. Peter Akpabio and members of the state assembly.

King Awala expressed gratitude for the governor's support and pledged the kingdom's readiness to collaborate with the state government to advance Bayelsa's development.
