Taraba Governor Forms Task Force Against Illegal Mining

Governor Kefas of Taraba State has constituted a new task force to address illegal mining activities and forest destruction within the state. The announcement was made in a statement signed by Barrister Timothy Kataps, the Secretary to the Taraba State Government, on Saturday.

The task force, consisting of eight members, will be led by Major A.M. Ghali as Commander, with Captain K.R.

Odenusi serving as second-in-command. Other members include ASP Ishaku Daniel, Iziogo Philip, Olakunde D, Kabiru Musa, Zibai Ayuba, and Suleiman Daniel.

The task force is tasked with ensuring strict adherence to government directives against illegal mining and will collaborate with personnel from key security agencies. Governor Kefas also dissolved all existing committees performing similar functions, granting the new team full responsibility.

The task force is expected to work alongside a Mobile Court established under existing executive orders and report periodically to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government. Recent findings indicate that illegal mining activities persist despite previous government actions to seal off several sites.
