Taraba Governor Signs Orders Against Drug Abuse, Violence

On a recent weekend, Dr. Agbu Kefas, the Governor of Taraba State, signed three executive orders aimed at combating drug abuse, electoral violence, and illegal mining within the state. The first order establishes a framework for the prevention, early detection, treatment, and rehabilitation of individuals affected by substance abuse and mental health issues.

It mandates collaboration among relevant ministries, security agencies, healthcare institutions, schools, traditional rulers, and religious organizations to promote awareness and provide targeted interventions. The second order prohibits political thuggery, hate speech, voter intimidation, and the use of weapons at political events, applying to all political parties.

Security agencies are tasked with identifying flashpoints and preventing the movement of weapons. The third order focuses on regulating mining activities, enhancing documentation of mining operators, and fostering collaboration with federal authorities and host communities to combat illegal mining and related issues.

The Secretary to the State Government will oversee the implementation of these orders.
