Otti Supports Tinubu's Re-election, Dismisses Party Crisis

During a monthly media chat on Friday at the Government House in Umuahia, Abia State, Governor Otti, a member of the Labour Party (LP), declared that he has no basis to oppose President Tinubu's candidacy for re-election. He emphasized that he will not contest the presidency as Tinubu seeks a second term.

Otti also dismissed reports of a crisis within the Labour Party, asserting that any disputes within the state have been resolved by the Supreme Court of Nigeria. He addressed concerns regarding political appointments and stated that he would vacate his office at the appropriate time in line with political interests.

Amid these comments, there are worries about defections from the Labour Party, particularly with claims from the All Progressives Congress (APC) that such moves could weaken opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections. Notably, eight governors and several federal lawmakers have defected to the APC in the last two and a half years, increasing the number of APC governors to 31.
