Nasarawa Governor Plans Olympic Stadium in Lafia

On the sidelines of the grand final of the 2025 Nasarawa State Governor's Football Cup, Governor Abdullahi Sule unveiled plans to construct an Olympic-size stadium in Lafia, the state capital. This announcement is part of his administration's commitment to revamping the sports sector and providing modern infrastructure to drive youth development and sports excellence across Nasarawa State.

Governor Sule explained that the existing Lafia City Stadium is overstretched due to the number of sporting events, which hinders comprehensive renovation efforts. Consequently, the administration is considering building a completely new state-of-the-art facility.

The proposed stadium is designed to host top-level competitions, including fixtures involving Nigeria's national team, and is expected to attract investment, reinforcing Nasarawa State's status as a central hub for sports activities. The governor's announcement coincided with the tournament final in the Karu Local Government Area, where Wamba emerged as the champion, earning a prize of N5 million.
